our history

The Lebanese civil war had detrimental effects on the country and its people. In fact, most hospitals closed, and very few were still operating in Beirut and were overcrowded. Dr. Faysal Najjar, who was then a young brilliant surgeon was offended by the lack of medical services in Beirut, and decided to take matters in his own hands. He came across a small delivery hospital, seeing a great potential in turning it to a formal bigger fully functioning hospital providing all medical & surgical services to the people.

He seeked the help of his brother, Mr. Ghazi Najjar, who was a successful business man, for providing the necessary funds to buy Abou El Hesen Hospital and to achieve the above project. Mr. Ghazi Najjar admired his brother’s goal, and took a big risk investing in this project in a country devastated by civil war. This single handed large investment led up to the expansion of the hospital and establishment of the prominent Najjar Hospital in October 15, 1981.

Because of his brave efforts in opening this private hospital in the wartime and his contribution in helping the community, Mr. Ghazi Najjar along with his brother were honored in a ceremony, and awarded a golden medal by the President of Lebanon Mr. Elias Sarkis, handed to them by the Prime Minister Mr. Chafic Wazzan (1981).

The Najjar brothers worked in collaboration to better develop the hospital known today as Najjar Hospital. Mr. Ghazi Najjar was responsible of the administrative & business side, and Dr. Faysal Najjar was the medical director.

The hospital became affiliated with the AUH (known today as AUB-MC). AUH residents pass formal rotations at Najjar Hospital, considered to them to be an excellent teaching setup in all the medical and surgical fields.

In 2004, Mr. Ghazi Najjar decided to expand, update, and modernize the hospital at all levels (structures & equipments). This was celebrated in an opening ceremony on December 10, 2004 by Prime Minister of Lebanon Mr. Rafic Hariri.

To this day, Najjar Hospital strives to improve, upgrade and learn in order to serve its community better.

Our Mission

Since its establishment, Najjar Hospital’s mission was to provide the best available healthcare services to the community in Beirut through the continuous quality care of patients, and through constant learning, development and growth.
